I don't think it is possible to define a"ghost" that makes any sense. Try to list the characteristics of a "standard ghost"

* A ghost can pick up and manipulate objects yet simultaneously walk through walls.
* A ghost is almost invisible yet we can see their faces ( but not their stomach, big intestine, bones and other internal organs as if they were translucent).
* A ghost has a tortured soul that "carries on" but clothing has no soul and yet remains with the ghost in the next life.
* A ghost can talk like a normal human being but has no physical presence to move air to make sound waves.

All the above contradictions are because ghosts come from fictional literature and the fictional ghosts are given characteristics to fit the plot, not reality. Therefore it would be a waste of time to consider why ghosts can't exist, because we can't even define a "standard ghost".
