Why? So the Scots can "defend" Iraq and Afghanistan? I don't know what an independent Scottish state would spend on militarism, but I do know that it's none of my business. This is madness and a form of outdated nationalism. Highly effective Scots are already head of many UK services. Now they are being demoted to smaller organisations or become suspect. .....for what advantage?
We have large states so that people can be heads of larger state bureaucracies?
If a Scot wants to remain a U.K. citizen, the U.K. could permit that, and I have no problem with it. Maybe he prefers not to reside in Scotland as a non-citizen, or maybe Scotland permits dual citizenship. U.S. citizens may have dual citizenship, though I'm not sure why anyone would want to be subject to more than one state. One seems more than enough.
