Thanks for that comment Poodle. When I see something that is so glaringly obviously hypocritical it makes me wonder if I am just reading it wrong or missing something. From Cup-o's first post it seems he is only interested in spouting his opinion, not seeking any match to reality.
I offered my opinion only as an alternative, not a definitive answer. I didn't think that needed explanation. Clearly, defining atheism is problematic. Defining religion is much more problematic, which is actually a reason to choose atheism. Defining science and skepticism also has some subtleties and nuance, something the cupmiester seems to have a problem with.

I'm sure you would feel the same way if the tables were turned- you would care about whether what I'm saying corresponds to reality, rather than my own opinions.
If that doesn't jive with you, then we don't have a common goal here. Perhaps your goal is more like catharsis. Attacking people who believe differently from you.
That just doesn't make sense to me. I don't see the point in it.
??? Aren't you the one who was recently questioning the validity of a real world outside the self? I may be wrong (I haven't gone back and looked), but if that WAS you, then "If it's not, it's meaningless because the object of the discussion is, at bottom, the real world, not Lausten's opinions" becomes a somewhat hypocritical statement.
