International Association for Near-Death Studies is woo

the one true thing about what i call 'near death experiences' is that people do have them. the sensations of time, space, proportion, etc become altered as all systems try to cope and communicate and protect the human core. a narrative is constructed ,perhaps afterwards, inside the neural pathways of a person returning from the brink. sometimes the person comes away with an overwhelming 'vision' a deeply imprinted and sometimes profound narrative, a sequence of super real, not normal images and sensations. this does not always happen, but it happens to enough people you could say it is a valid human experience. and i think that is exactly what it is. nothing woo about it.

if there was an institute that collected these experiences, these stories, i would be all for it. there is a narrative interest. it might help us understand how we do experience and interpret coming close to death .

what bothers me about the description of these institutes, well ONE of the things, is dragging it into the realm of the paranormal psychic world of woo. especially dragging it over to focus on conversing with the dead, etc. that brings it right around to mediums, and ,as usual, plays on the emotional yearnings of those who believe they speak with the dead or vice versa. to me this has nothing to do with an actual near death experience, nothing.
i would guess the Monroe institute is also a participant, as they are not only involved with 'remote viewing', but were featured in a recent discovery channel program as using hemi sync sound technology to aid their 'modern day ghostbusters' in 'soul retrievals', where the sleeping, headphone wearing wanna be psychics travelled out of body to find souls who had not yet rested. the 'hits ' some of them found could have been so easily contrived, it was ridiculous. find someone who died in the civil war, a name, a battlefield. say it with a hint of mystery in your voice. then they go to the civil war records to discover that oh wow, someone with this name died at this battlefield! yet this organization, like the ones above promotes itself to be on the cutting edge of the 'science'.

which brings me to the other irritant and my own 'psychic 'prediction(LOL). expect every one of them to use
'quantum mechanics/physics' as a validation for their particular brand of woo. and they'll each say it like they understand what it means.
