I don't think the USA is going to lead the world towards moderate socialism. I think it will happen across all borders slowly. It will be a sort of world 'thing" as education spreads and people in poor countries acquire some small assets.
The USA increased the copyright duration with Australia about five years ago. As Australia "needs" the USA if we go into a full war with Indonesia we accepted the change. The USA needs Australian royalties for Mickey Mouse and resistors.
