Is your friend this psychic's only customer? If not, are any of the others being harmed by paying money in exchange for the same false sense of hope? Your friend's business is enabling the psychic to go on.
Plenty of people do foolish things without even seeing the harm they're doing to themselves. One might be smoking ("hey, it feels good and relaxes me!"); another shoplifts ("it's a rush!"); a third drinks and drives ("I'm a better driver when I've had a few!"). The harm comes when it comes: Cancer, a criminal record, death in a car crash. Maybe it never comes. Maybe you get lucky.
What's the harm is a psychic's lies? You're being deceived; you invest in that deception, you take the advice, and you base your actions on the advice from someone who's just trying to get your money out of your pocket, rather than someone who's actually looking out for you best interests. "Hey, your dead mother says she always loved you." Not really, but I don't care; gimme some money. "Your sister left a secret will." Better get on your brother's-in-law back for not looking for it, then. "Your kidnapped daughter is dead, but she's in Heaven now and she's happy."Oops! No she's not!
What's the harm is throwing money away and lying to yourself in order to make yourself happy based on lies, deceit, and misdirection? If there was just one harm to be had, it would be an easier question to answer.
