And my point is that we've used radio for about 100 years, and probably won't be using it 100 years from now. If we figure that an alien civilization does the same then we have a vanishingly small chance of hearing an aliens.

What you describe is the area done by SETI in detail. In fact, they have also done a "once over lightly" for most of our galaxy. Sure, they may have missed something. But my conclusion is not that ET does not exist, but that he is not common.
