People use critical thinking every day in making mundane decisions; balancing checkbooks, which car to buy and so on. Then they watch something on the boobtube and their critical thinking faculties go into hibernation.
Or, to put it another way. People use critical thinking in the pragmatic aspects of their lives (not exclusively, but mostly), but do not use it in their intellectual aspects.
