But there are also very accomplished and knowledgeable physicists who promote "quantum consciousness". Henry Stapp may be the best-known of them. And he seems to have no lack of mathematical or theoretical understanding of quantum physics, just a different set of conclusions to draw from them. Maybe you could argue, as Kenny does above, that he lacks sufficient knowledge of neurology to be able to apply quantum mechanics to the brain. But maybe Penrose and Stapp have more knowledge of neurology than Kenny is aware of. I'm not sure.

First, Stapp's view actively diverges from Penrose's to the point of outright contradiction. Far from being support for the notion, it's just a schism in the whole concept.

Second, Kenny is not incorrect about the well-known qualifications of Penrose, and Hammeroff (or Stapp); they have NONE in the arena of biology, medicine, or neurology.

This whole "field" is a case of pure fallacy perpetrated by smart people horribly out of their field. They would be just as outraged if their primary care physician tried to re-write the time-dependent Schroedinger equation.
